Brand New Leisure Centres at Bishop Auckland and Chester-le-Street

Durham County Council have awarded FT Leisure design consultancy for two leisure centres that will replace the current outdated centres. The £78m plans are meant to promote and improve opportunities for exercise, provide more accessible and inclusive leisure facilities and improve residents’ physical and mental health.

The proposed 25m, 6 lane main lap pools and 20m, 4 lane secondary pools will both feature moveable floors to facilitate the widest range of uses. They will support leisure and lap swimming, swimming lessons, children’s focused sessions, aqua fitness, toddler groups and club swimming.  Bishop Auckland will also have a water play area which will feature a splash pad and flumes to provide a destination experience.
